The 20th running of the Mississauga half Marathon, held on April 30th 2023 was one to remember, as over 5000 participants participated in different race groups i.e. the NOVO NORDISK ‘HAZEL’ 5K, the 10K and the half marathon.
The Pre-race festivities kicked off with the special appearances from Mayor Bonnie Crombie and other local politicians. The Celebration Square was abuzz with energetic runners trying to relax and loosen up before their big run, while energetic music boosted the pre-race atmosphere. The anticipation kept building throughout the morning until the horn signaled the start at 7:30 am, firstly for the 10k participants, followed by the 5K and half marathoners. The Tim Hortons Trot race of 500 mts. around the celebration square, for the tiny trotters began later on in the day . The event hosted a number of participating groups including schools, local sports teams, and charities.
Canara World Foundation was excited to welcome a group of excited runners, some of whom ran a distance race for their first time.It was a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together for a great charitable cause, while encouraging healthy & active lifestyles.
The race was for everyone, as it gave the opportunity for all participants to reach new goals, by setting a new personal best time or by simply completing their first race. The course was lined with exciting cheerleaders from family, friends, well wishers, bystanders, local businesses including our very own committee members: Flavian Pinto & Miriam Pinto & Max Mendes. Although the weather was gloomy, but the ever enthusiastic runners, made the best of the running course, cheer stations and the pre and post entertainment.
The 2023 Mississauga Marathon Charity Challenge raised over $100,000, supporting local charity partners.
